Tips of the Trade
One major topic during this time of year centers around electricity and safety. Thankfully, we have Fred with FAB Electric & Trenching to guide us in keeping your home and family safe this season.
- Electrical tips for holiday lighting
Be sure to plug into a GFCI-protected circuit for your protection from shock. Use quality cords with no nicks in the insulation. If the GFI breaker or receptacle trips, you will have to wait for your cords and light to dry out before the GFCI will reset. Electrons flow through the moisture from a current-carrying conductor could trip out the GFI protection device. - Ways to reduce electricity bill
If you have any light bulbs that aren’t LED bulbs, change them now! Most LED bulbs use 80-90% less electricity. Check with your service provider for your peak hours to reduce usage. Upgraded kitchen appliances, water heaters, air conditioners, heat pumps, and furnaces use less electricity than older appliances. Proper insulation in windows, doors, and walls/attic is very important to efficiently heat and cool your home. - Outlet Education
Ensure outlets and receptacles are pronged properly for appliances or apparatus to receive enough electricity without causing a shock or fire to start. The best solution for this is to change receptacles out to a GFI or run new wires to your breaker box. There are modern apparatus’s that only have a two wire cords on them and that is not a problem because the apparatus will not have any exposed metal parts on it that can be energized and shock you.
